Obviously, Scotland is the home to many whisky distilleries. Taste of course is a personal thing, but we have shortlisted our personal favourite whisky distillery tours here. Enjoy the tours by their passionate guides!
Glengoyne Distillery (Highland)
A picturesque distillery located between Glasgow and the shores of Loch Lomond – right on the fault line separating the Highlands from the Lowlands. Their welcoming tour guides have never let us down all those times we took our friends and family here. Great day out in combination with walking Conic hill – best start with the hill before drinking the whisky!

Talisker Distillery (Island)
Beautifully located on the Isle of Skye. Talisker drowns out the wind and the rain coming in from the ocean and warms you with their rich, peaty whiskies. More accessible for most people then the more heavily smoked Islay whiskies, and brilliantly tasteful. If you have ventured all the way out to the Isle of Skye, we would surely recommend a (short) stop here. Tip: don’t miss out on the other highlights when you are on Skye!

Laphroaig Distillery (Islay)
One of the most outspoken tastes in whiskies. Like all Islay whiskies the strongly peated flavour sets Laphroaig apart from all other regions. What we like best about this tour (besides it being set so beautifully at the bay) is that is one of the very few tours where you get to see the barley being malted. Most distillers have outsourced the process nowadays. Laphroaig however believes this is what they need to do their selves to get their soul into the whisky. One reason that makes this a favourite whisky distillery tour of ours is that you can actually taste the barley where it is being dried. A unique quality!

The Dalmore (Highland)
Unlike most distilleries, the Dalmore has a much more industrial age look to its site. Stepping onto the grounds of a distillery the first time always gets us a wee bit nervous, as we hope that the site and the tour can live up to the whisky’s reputation. But wow, the Dalmore delivers! Combined with the great tasting bar the Dalmore really sets itself apart from the competition.

Auchentoshan Distillery (Lowland)
Auchentoshan is the only Lowland distillery among our favourites. Set on the outskirts of Glasgow (Clydebank) it’s an easy trip to take by train from Glasgow center. Unlike most Scottish whiskies Auchentoshan triple distills their whisky, making it incredibly smooth. The tour on the site is very good and even allows you to try their spirit, straight off the still – if you dare!
